Dr Kate Wright

Co-Founder, Armidale Aboriginal Community Garden

Kate Wright is a settler-colonial descendent of English, Scottish and Danish ancestry, raised in Armidale on Anaiwan Country that was never ceded. Her work is situated at the interface of community-based social and environmental activism and environmental humanities research, with a particular focus on decolonisation. In 2014 she co-founded, with Anaiwan Elder Steve Widders, a community garden in Armidale as a platform for cultural revival, anticolonial activism and environmental recuperation and regeneration. She has a PhD in Environmental Humanities from Macquarie University in Sydney (2013), has published a book about decolonisation and more-than-human relations with Routledge Press, and is an affiliated researcher with the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich.
