Shulang Fei

Principal Scientist, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences

Shulang Fei is a principal researcher in the Urban Food Policy and Planning Research Team from the Institute of Urban Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). Before joining CAAS, she worked as an urban agriculture and food system consultant at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) since obtaining her PhD degree in the field of agriculture from the University of Queensland (UQ). Now her work interest is on the holistic assessment of city region food systems for better local food planning and the implementation of urban agriculture initiatives to explore urban agriculture’s multifunctionality and to mainstream various urban agriculture typologies in the context of Chinese cities. By closely working with the municipal government and the local practitioners, her team has been working on different scales of food planning and food policy research projects. Since last year, Shulang has been the focal point to coordinate IUA’s collaboration with the FAO on the global Green Cities Initiative. She is also in close collaborations with global partners on the City Region Food Systems Programme and Horizon Europe projects.
